Jazz at the Brook
Featuring: Micah Jones

Dear Jazz Band Directors,

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our annual Jazz at the Brook Friday, March 2, 2012. We are very excited to be hosting this show with the talented Micah Jones.

Micah Jones is the chair of the Bass department at The University of the Arts as well as coordinator of the University’s Pre-College Summer Jazz Institute. Originally from Harrisburg Pennsylvania, Micah came to the Philadelphia area to study violin at Temple University. He decided that jazz is where his heart is, and changed his major to acoustic bass. Micah received his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz performance in 1997 followed by a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of the Arts in 1999.

Micah is known for his ability to creatively support the players around him. “Micah seems constantly aware of the overall group sound as he lays it down, frees it up, swings, converses and compliments… all with impeccable taste.” says Don Glanden.

He has performed in concert and club settings with Terence Blanchard, Randy Brecker, Patti LaBelle, and regularly performs with the Don Glanden Trio. Micah has recorded with Ben Schachter’s Trio of Many, Monkadelphia, and Prism Jazz Trio. Currently, Micah is working on a recording project with his own Trio, and played on a Monkadelphia CD in 2010.

If you have been to our festival before you know how this works. This is a non- competitive and competitive festival. There is a place to check your preference on the registration form.

The best part is Micah will be a personal clinician with your band!!! You will have 50 minutes in the warm up room and 25 of them will be with Micah. He will work with you on any tunes or sections of music you would like and make suggestions. Following this session you will have the remaining time before taking the stage.

Every year we offer awards and scholarships. Each band competing will receive a rating and a best soloist. Best sections, outstanding soloists and the best band will also be awarded. We will also have scholarships for the U-Arts and Berklee summer programs.

This year the festival fee is $150.00. Please make the payments to Overbrook Band. I also ask that the school purchase order make it to Overbrook on or before the date of the festival. You can download the invoice form by clicking here

Micah is very excited about this opportunity! A festival you definitely will not want to miss!

Sincerely,

Brian Height
